Carpet cleaning in Islington covers estate flats, Georgian and Victorian terraces and the flats cut out of them, since 83.6% of households here live in flats. A living room carpet is £43 and a hallway £22.
Islington’s 96,496 households were spread like this in 2021: 57.4% in blocks built as flats, 21.3% in houses converted or shared, 5.0% in other conversions or over shops, and 12.7% in terraced houses, with semis and detached homes together under 4%. Four in ten households (40.2%) were social tenants, a larger group than private renters (31.2%) or owners (26.7%). For carpets, the split is between a flat on one floor, where the list is rooms and a hall, and a terrace or conversion, where each flight of stairs is a separate item on the bill.
Many of the old houses are protected. The borough has 42 conservation areas, the newest of them Poets Road from 25 September 2025, and where an Article 4(2) direction applies, planning permission is needed for changes as small as a replacement front door or painted brickwork. Inside, that housing keeps its tall, narrow plan: a hall at street level, a flight to each floor, a small landing at the top of each. Rooms, flights and landings are each priced separately on the full price list, so the bill follows the house you have.
Parking for carpet cleaning in Islington
Islington’s zones do not share one timetable. In most, controls begin at 8.30am and end at 6.30pm, Monday to Friday, and many add Saturday mornings up to 1.30pm. Zones C and K are controlled at every hour of the day and night. Zones G, HE, TW and Z are the opposite, controlled only from 10am until 2pm. With nearly 6,500 short-stay bays across the borough, the cleaner can usually find a paid space, settled by RingGo or at a PayPoint shop, with a small extra charge on weekdays between 10am and 1pm.
A resident can buy visitor e-vouchers online, for immediate use or as much as two days in advance, and nothing has to be shown in the car. They are valid in shared-use bays and in bays for residents and permit holders, though the short-stay bays do not accept them. When the flat is empty and nobody can buy a voucher, a tradesperson can pay through RingGo for Islington’s permission-to-park permit, which covers a whole day. Any parking fee the cleaner pays reaches your bill at cost, with £40 as the upper limit.
Islington’s three landlord licences
Islington licenses private lets three ways. Five or more people drawn from two households or more under one roof calls for a mandatory HMO licence; three or four such people, an additional HMO licence. Lets outside those two groups need a selective licence, but only in certain wards. For now those are Finsbury Park, Hillrise and Tollington. Seven more are being added (Mildmay, Laycock, Junction, Highbury, Caledonian, Barnsbury and Tufnell Park), and landlords there have until 23 November 2026 to apply.
For a landlord, carpets are usually done while a flat stands empty between tenancies. When the carpets go on an end of tenancy clean, the rate per bedroom falls to £29, and the living room is £36, as the cleaner is on site anyway. In a shared house, include the communal hall and stairs, which every tenant uses and nobody owns.
Carpet cleaning in Angel
Most people at Angel live in blocks. In 2021, 63.8% of households in the two wards around Angel were in purpose-built flats and 15.3% in terraced houses. The terraces go back a long way. Duncan Terrace/Colebrooke Row and Arlington Square were both made conservation areas on 7 January 1969, and on Valuation Office counts 37.9% of the area’s homes predate 1919, while 29.5% date from 2000 or later. So one Angel booking may be a tall terrace with a flight between every floor, and the next a recent flat whose soft furnishings are a sofa, a rug and four dining chairs.
For dining chair cleaning, each upholstered seat is £13, done at the table. Neither ward falls inside Islington’s selective licensing, current or planned, so single-household lets here need no selective licence, though homes shared by three or more people from two or more households still need an HMO one. Camden Passage, just off Upper Street, is busiest on Wednesday and Saturday, its main market days, from 8am onwards; for carpet cleaning close by, another day may make the carry from the car easier.
Carpet cleaning in Highbury
Of the eight areas on this page, Highbury is second only to Barnsbury for terraced houses. Across Highbury and Arsenal wards, 17.5% of households lived in a terraced house in 2021 (Islington as a whole: 12.7%), and owners made up 34.0%. Some of the houses are very old. Highbury Place’s 39 houses date from leases of 1774 to 1779, Highbury New Park was started by Henry Rydon in 1851, and Aberdeen Park had large villas by the mid 1850s. A house of that age can mean three or four flights and a landing on each, with the flights at £41 apiece and the landings at £9. Owners keeping a good carpet often ask for stain protection afterwards, £33 per room.
Check the football fixtures before you book carpet cleaning in Arsenal ward. The Emirates Stadium is there, and for home games and events ten Islington zones (E, F, G, H, J, L, N, Q, V and Y) get extra match-day controls. The old Highbury Stadium is now Highbury Square, flats opened in 2009 behind the listed facades of the East and West Stands. As for licensing, Highbury ward is joining the selective scheme and Arsenal ward is staying out.
Carpet cleaning in Holloway
Holloway is block country. Two thirds of the ward’s households (67.8%) were in purpose-built blocks in 2021, 43.2% were social tenants, and 2.9% were part-owners through shared ownership, nearly double Islington’s 1.6%. A shared owner looks after the flat’s carpets the same way any owner does. Old and new are evenly matched here, with 28.7% of homes from before 1919 and 28.1% from 2000 onwards; the Hillmarton conservation area, designated in November 1990, lies almost entirely in the ward, south and west of Holloway Road.
Many more new homes are on the way. Peabody and London Square are building 985 of them on the old Holloway Prison site in Parkhurst Road, with a 1.4 acre park, a women’s building and commercial space, and completion is listed for October 2027. New flats often come with hard floors in the living areas. Hard floor cleaning costs £6 per square metre, and the cleaner can do it on the visit that covers the bedroom carpets. Holloway ward sits outside both the current and the new selective licensing areas.
Carpet cleaning in Canonbury
Canonbury looks like an area of Georgian squares, and part of it is. Building began under Lord Northampton in 1803, and the square that carries the area’s name dates from 1805 to 1830; the manor’s Canonbury Tower is far older, rebuilt in the 1590s. The Canonbury conservation area was designated in February 1969 and East Canonbury in June 1989. Yet social tenants made up 44.5% of households in Canonbury ward in 2021, and blocks of flats housed 55.5%. In the east of Canonbury is the Marquess Estate, 1,200 homes for the council finished in 1976. Darbourne and Darke designed it in dark red brick, and it has since been remodelled to make it more secure.
Post-war housing is common too: Valuation Office counts for neighbourhoods best fitted to the ward put 29.0% of homes in the years 1945 to 1972, more than in the other Islington neighbourhoods here, beside 41.2% older than 1919. For carpet cleaning in an estate flat, give the block, the floor and the nearest place to stop. In a Georgian house on the squares, the stairs are the big item, priced flight by flight, and the hall at £22.
Carpet cleaning in Clerkenwell
Clerkenwell has more converted buildings than the borough as a whole. In 2021, 9.0% of the ward’s households lived in former warehouses, workshops and similar conversions, nearly three times Islington’s 3.1%. Those flats can have one big open room, and carpet over a large open area is charged by size at £3 a square metre. Almost everyone (91.9%) lives in a flat of some sort.
Two estates show how much access varies. Lubetkin’s Spa Green Estate, from 1943 to 1950 and grade II* from 1998, sits between St John Street and Rosebery Avenue. Lifts serve its two eight-storey blocks. Sadler House, the lower block on a curve, had only stairs when it opened, and its lifts came later. Older still are the New River Company’s neo-classical terraces around Myddelton Square, built from 1810 to 1850, and the pedimented villas of the Lloyd Baker estate. Tell us the building and the floor, and the cleaner will know before arriving whether the machine goes up in a lift or by hand.
Carpet cleaning in Archway
The office block over Archway station, Archway Tower of 1973, is now Vantage Point, 17 storeys and 59 metres of rented flats run by Essential Living. Behind it, much of Junction ward is older housing. Valuation Office counts for neighbourhoods best fitted to the ward date 48.7% of homes to before 1919 and a quarter (25.0%) to the years 1973 to 1999. St John’s Grove, a conservation area from April 1990, lies inside the ward.
Junction is one of the wards joining Islington’s selective licensing, which will cover most single-household lets and lets to one or two people, and the deadline for applying is 23 November 2026. For a landlord getting a let ready, carpet cleaning and a mattress clean at £35 can be done together before the next tenant moves in. Thames Water’s lookup puts parts of N19 in its Holloway supply zone and others in its Crouch End and Gospel Oak zone, both hard water. The cleaner fills the machine at a tap in the flat, so the water must be on.
Carpet cleaning in Tufnell Park
Tufnell Park was built as a Victorian suburb. John Shaw Jr. drew the plans for the first serious building, around Carleton Road in 1845, and George Truefitt followed from 1865 with most of the villas and St George’s Church. Many villas have since been divided: a converted or shared house was home to 34.0% of the ward’s households at the 2021 Census, well above Islington’s 21.3%. In a divided villa, the hall and stairs shared by every flat get more traffic than any single room, and they can be booked by one flat or by all of them together.
A third of households (32.4%) owned their home and 48.3% lived in purpose-built blocks. The Tufnell Park conservation area dates from June 1970 and Mercers Road/Tavistock Terrace from July 1989. Tufnell Park is also in the new selective licensing area, with landlords due to apply by 23 November 2026. A sofa cleaned at the same visit is £57 for two seats.
Carpet cleaning in Barnsbury
Terraced houses are commoner in Barnsbury than in any other Islington area on this page. They held 17.7% of the ward’s households in 2021, and converted or shared houses another 25.9%. The stock is old: 59.3% of homes date from before 1919, and half (50.1%) from before 1900. Most of the ward sits in the Barnsbury conservation area, first designated in April 1969 and last extended in April 2004. Behind the front door of a Barnsbury terrace there is typically a hall, then stairs, then a landing, all before the first bedroom, so carpet cleaning here is often more stairs than rooms.
The ward’s southern edge is in the Chapel Market/Penton Street conservation area. Chapel Market, which Islington Council calls the heart of the Angel, trades from 9am to 6pm Tuesday to Saturday and from 8.30am to 4pm on Sunday, and there is no market on Mondays, which leaves more room to stop nearby. Barnsbury is joining selective licensing too, so a landlord with a single-household let in the ward will usually need that licence. Fabric armchairs are £33 each and can be cleaned while the carpets dry.
Questions about carpet cleaning in Islington
Does an Islington e-voucher cover the carpet cleaner’s car?
Yes. E-vouchers are bought online to start at once or up to two days later, and no paper goes in the windscreen. They cover shared-use bays and bays for residents and permit holders; short-stay bays are excluded. Without a voucher, a paid bay is used and its charge appears on your bill, never above £40.
What happens if my carpet clean is on an Arsenal match day?
For home games and events at the Emirates Stadium, Islington puts extra match-day controls on ten zones near the ground. A visit that runs into those controls needs a second, match-day booking on top of the ordinary e-voucher. A different day is usually simpler, and our carpet cleaners work 8am to 7pm on all seven days.
Can the cleaner park if nobody is at the flat to buy a voucher?
Yes. Islington sells tradespeople working at an address an all-day permission-to-park permit through RingGo, and it can be used in most kinds of bay, short-stay and business bays among them. That suits an empty flat between tenants. The cost is added to your bill and capped at £40.
Which Islington wards are in selective licensing?
Finsbury Park, Hillrise and Tollington are in already. Seven more wards are being added, Highbury, Junction, Tufnell Park and Barnsbury among them, and their landlords must apply by 23 November 2026. An HMO licence is needed wherever three or more people from two or more households share a home in Islington. At a changeover, the carpets cost £29 a bedroom when added to the end of tenancy clean.
