In Camden, carpet cleaning mostly means flats: 86.6% of households live in one, and about three in ten of those flats are inside converted houses. Bedrooms cost £36 each; stairs are £41 a flight.

More than half of Camden’s households (56.2%) are in purpose-built blocks, where the carpet usually sits on one level: bedrooms, a living room, the hall and perhaps a fabric sofa. Converted houses, home to 26.2%, come in odder shapes. A second-floor flat in a split terrace may begin with its own staircase behind the street door, then a landing, then rooms of uneven sizes. Count the flights between your own front door and the top room when you book, since each one is a separate line on the bill.

Camden Council owns 32,014 homes on its stock list of June 2026, all but 1,389 of them flats, and leaseholders hold 9,831. Whole houses are rare in the borough. Terraces account for 8.1% of households, semis for 3.6% and detached houses for 1.7%. Whatever the building, the cleaner hand-carries a portable hot water extraction machine in and works through the rooms one at a time; people often search for it as steam carpet cleaning, though no steam goes into the pile.

Parking and access for a carpet cleaner in Camden

Everything arrives from the car in a couple of trips (machine, hoses, wand, solutions), so where the cleaner can stop decides how the morning starts. Camden divides its streets into controlled zones coded CA plus a letter, and each zone keeps its own days and hours. In most of them, controls start at 8.30am and finish at 6.30pm on weekdays. The exceptions are far apart: the Camden Town Area zone runs until 11pm on all seven days, Swiss Cottage until 10pm, and parts of Redington and Frognal for only two hours over weekday lunchtimes. Housing estates and private roads inside a zone keep their own rules, so the signs at the kerb are what count.

Residents buy Camden visitor permits electronically and nothing goes on the dashboard. A short-stay permit is sold by the quarter hour with four hours as the ceiling, which a whole flat with stairs can run past, so an all-day permit is the safer buy where your zone sells one. Camden also sells tradespeople a day permit for resident bays and single yellow lines near the job, though paid bays, red routes and estates are excluded and a space is never promised. If a paid bay is the only option, its cost goes on your bill and stops at £40.

Shared houses and lettings in Camden

Camden households fall into three blocks of similar size. In 2021, 35.6% had a private landlord and 33.7% a social one, the council or a housing association, while 29.7% owned. Sharing is common enough to be licensed across the borough. A home where three or more people from at least two households share needs an additional HMO licence under the scheme that replaced Camden’s 2020 one on 8 December 2025, and on 24 October 2026 the council’s register showed 2,936 additional licences and 433 mandatory ones in force.

In a shared house the bedrooms are private and the lounge, hall and stairs are everybody’s, so the communal carpets wear first and show it first. A landlord can book the shared areas on their own or add them to a changeover. Added to an end of tenancy clean, each bedroom carpet is £29 and the living room £36, as the cleaner is in the property already. Have the carpets done the afternoon before the new tenant collects the keys, with a window open, to give them time to dry.

Carpet cleaning in Camden Town

Parking shapes carpet cleaning in Camden Town. The town centre zone, CA-F(n), is controlled from 8.30am on weekdays and 9.30am at weekends, each time until 11pm, so no day is free of it. East of Camden Road the Camden Square streets are in zone CA-N, where controls end at 6.30pm and Saturdays and Sundays are uncontrolled. The two wards’ biggest council estates are Maiden Lane (752 homes), Clarence Way (250) and Agar Grove (241), and each estate sets its own parking rules.

Over the shops, 3.6% of households in the Camden Town and Camden Square wards live in flats inside commercial buildings. A flat like that may be reached up a narrow stair from a door beside the shopfront. If that stair carpet is part of your flat, put it on the booking as a flight at £41, or a short flight at £29, and say how many steps it has.

Carpet cleaning in Kentish Town

Kentish Town is old housing. Valuation Office figures for March 2025, for neighbourhoods best fitted to the two wards, put 65.0% of homes as built before 1919, most of them before 1900, and just 13.3% from 2000 onwards. Converted houses hold 36.0% of households, close behind the 38.5% in purpose-built blocks. For carpets, that means stairs. A Victorian terrace divided into two or three flats may have a shared flight from the street door and a private one above it, and a whole terraced house (13.6% of households) has a hall, then the stairs, then a landing before anyone reaches a bedroom: £22, £41 and £9.

Weekend carpet cleaning is simpler here. Zones CA-L and CA-M, West and East Kentish Town, stop at 6.30pm on weekdays and do not run at all on Saturdays or Sundays, apart from St Leonards Square, which keeps weekend controls between 9.30am and 5.30pm. When a carpet, rug or mattress is beyond saving, Camden’s recycling centre on Regis Road (NW5 3EW) accepts all three, plus sofas, from 9am to 4pm, closing only on 25 and 26 December and 1 January.

Carpet cleaning in Hampstead

Hampstead has more whole houses than the rest of Camden. In Hampstead Town and Frognal wards in 2021, 10.5% of households lived in a terrace, 10.6% in a semi and 5.7% in a detached house, and half (50.3%) owned their home. A house means more carpet per visit: two or three flights, a landing on each floor and sometimes a lounge too large for a room price, which is then measured at £3 a square metre. Owners who mean to keep a carpet for a long time often add stain protection at £33 a room once the carpet cleaning is done. It helps a spill sit on the surface long enough to be blotted up; it does not make the pile stain-proof.

Check the zone before you pick a day. The Hampstead and Vale of Heath zone, CA-H(b), runs from 9am until 8pm, Saturdays included, and Church Row, CA-H(d), carries on until 10pm. In parts of Redington and Frognal, zone CA-S(a), the controls cover only the two hours after 12.30pm on weekdays. Hampstead also has its own trade permit rule: inside CA-H, a trade permit lets the holder park on double yellow lines until 8pm.

Carpet cleaning in Belsize Park

Belsize ward is where Camden’s converted flats are thickest on the ground. In 2021, 46.6% of its households lived in a flat carved from a house, ahead of the 40.2% in purpose-built blocks. The streets mix Georgian and Victorian villas with mews houses, and most of the ward lies inside the Belsize conservation area, designated in February 1988. A top-floor flat in a divided villa can mean carrying the machine up three or four shared flights, so give the floor when you book.

Half of the ward’s households (50.0%) rent privately, which makes carpet cleaning between tenancies a regular job here. Landlords often add a mattress clean at £35 a mattress for the next tenant, done in the bedroom on the same visit. Most streets are in zone CA-B, where weekday controls begin at 9am and run to 6.30pm and Saturday controls finish at 1.30pm, so a Saturday afternoon start needs no permit.

Carpet cleaning in West Hampstead

More households rent from a private landlord in West Hampstead and Fortune Green than in any other way: 44.9% in 2021, well above Camden’s 35.6%, and 38.2% lived in flats made out of houses. In a flat let to sharers, the living room sofa gets the hardest use of anything in the home. For sofa cleaning, a two-seater comes to £57 and each seat beyond that adds £26, and the cleaner checks the fabric first in case it needs a gentler method. Council homes here are spread across smaller estates, including Lymington Road (265), West End Sidings (229), Templar House (108) and Westcroft Close (101).

Parking for carpet cleaners changes from street to street. The West End zone, CA-P(b), is controlled six days a week, Monday to Saturday, through the working day. Fortune Green, CA-P(a), and Kilburn, CA-Q, are controlled on weekdays only, and CA-P(c) for the two hours before midday on weekdays. Give us the street name with the postcode and we will look up which zone you are in. The West End Green conservation area, at the top of West End Lane, was designated in March 1993.

Carpet cleaning in Bloomsbury

Hardly anyone in Bloomsbury lives in a house. At the 2021 Census, 96.4% of households in the ward were in flats, over three quarters (77.6%) in blocks built as flats, so carpet cleaning here usually means a lift or a communal stair and then a flat on one level. The best known block is the Brunswick Centre, built between 1967 and 1972 and now listed grade II. It holds 560 flats as well as shops, and its homes were leased to Camden for council housing; the stock list now counts 377 council homes there.

In a compact flat the booking may be one bedroom, a living room and an armchair at £33, while a single room booked on its own still starts at the £67 minimum. Private renting is the largest tenure at 42.5%, so many of those bookings come at the end of a let. Zone CA-E covers most of the ward with controls from Monday to Saturday, which leaves Sunday outside the hours. The Bloomsbury conservation area dates from March 1984; in the Fitzrovia corner of the ward, Fitzroy Square and Charlotte Street have conservation areas of their own.

Carpet cleaning in Holborn

Social renting runs higher in Holborn than anywhere else on this page, with 45.7% of the ward’s households holding a council or housing association tenancy in 2021. Many of them live on the Bourne Estate, put up by the London County Council from 1905 to 1909 on the block framed by Leather Lane, Clerkenwell Road and Gray’s Inn Road. Most of its blocks are listed grade II, and Camden counts 546 council homes there. Let us know the floor and whether a lift goes up to it, since the cleaner carries the machine, hoses and solutions up.

Nearly every household in the ward (95.8%) lives in a flat, and 6.3% live in flats inside commercial buildings, over shops and offices. In a small flat with little carpet, the soft furnishings make up most of the job. Curtains are cleaned in the flat at £35 a short pair or £42 a long pair, and nothing is taken away. The carpet cleaning and the curtains can go on one visit.

Carpet cleaning in King’s Cross

Two very different kinds of home share this ward. On the north side of the stations, the King’s Cross Central scheme comprises 50 buildings, 8.9 storeys high on average, and 1,700 homes, including flats fitted inside three restored grade II gasholder frames. New flats like these may have wooden or other hard floors, and then the soft things to clean are a rug, a sofa and the beds. Rug cleaning is done in the room the rug lives in, at £35 if it measures 3 square metres or under, or £51 if larger.

South of Euston Road the housing is older. Along the Gray’s Inn Road side, Camden’s appraisal of the conservation area records three-storey terraces with basements, built in the early 1800s and many raised with a mansard, which can mean four flights from bottom to top. The council estates there include Cromer Street (204 homes on two estates), Regent Square (141), Sidmouth Street (104) and Birkenhead Street (99), the last in seven-storey blocks from the 1950s. These streets are in zone CA-D, with weekday controls ending at 6.30pm and Saturday controls that lift at 1.30pm.

Questions about carpet cleaning in Camden

Can the carpet cleaner park on a Camden visitor permit?

Yes. Camden visitor permits are bought electronically and nothing is displayed in the car. Short-stay permits are sold by the quarter hour and stop at four hours; all-day permits suit a bigger carpet clean but are not sold in every zone. Without one, the cleaner uses a paid bay and passes on the exact charge, up to a limit of £40.

Where does the cleaner park on a Camden council estate?

Housing estates in Camden run their own parking rules, separate from the street zones, and Camden’s trade permits are not valid on estates. Tell us when you book whether the nearest space is on the estate or in the street outside, and which block and floor you live on, so the cleaner can plan the carry from the car.

Which Camden zones have no parking controls at weekends?

Kentish Town’s zones CA-L and CA-M (apart from St Leonards Square) and the Camden Square zone CA-N are controlled on weekdays only. Belsize stops at 1.30pm on Saturdays, and so does King’s Cross south of Euston Road. The Camden Town Area zone is controlled every day until 11pm. Saturdays and Sundays are normal working days for us, 8am to 7pm, so a weekend carpet clean is an option.

Can a Camden landlord book only the communal carpets in a shared house?

Yes. A shared hall is £22, each flight of stairs £41 and each landing £9, and they can be booked without any of the bedrooms. Ask the tenants to clear bikes, shoes and post off the floor beforehand, and to keep the water and electricity running so the machine can be filled and plugged in.
