Over half of Haringey’s homes went up before 1919, so carpet cleaning here often starts with the hall, stairs and landing of an old house or conversion. Bedrooms are £36 each and a staircase £41.

Valuation Office counts for March 2025 put 114,960 homes in the borough, 36.5% of them older than 1900 and only 12.6% built in 2000 or later. Most households live in flats (61.0% at the 2021 Census), and conversions and shared houses hold 22.8% of the borough’s households, so over a third of those flats sit inside houses that were split up. That puts stairs high on most lists. An upstairs conversion can begin with its own flight just inside the street door; a terrace puts a hall, a flight and a landing between the front door and the first bedroom. Those routes take every footstep in the home, and they look grey long before the bedrooms do.

Newer blocks bring a different list. Where a flat has wooden or laminate floors, the soft things tend to be a living room rug, a fabric sofa and the mattresses, and one cleaner can do the lot on one visit. For sofa cleaning, a two-seater is £57, plus £26 for every further seat.

Carpets in Haringey’s rented homes

In 2021, 35.6% of Haringey households rented privately and 25.2% from a social landlord. Private renting was lowest in Alexandra Park ward (21.3%) and highest in Harringay ward (50.2%). Selective licensing applies to most private lets in 14 wards until 17 November 2027: the eight Tottenham wards plus Noel Park, Woodside, Bounds Green, Harringay, Hermitage & Gardens and St Ann’s. Separately, shared houses outside mandatory licensing need an additional licence anywhere in Haringey up to 16 June 2029.

For a let home, the gap between tenants is the obvious time to have the carpets done. Added to an end of tenancy clean, each bedroom carpet costs £29 and a living room £36; the lower rate is there because the cleaner is already on site. In a shared house, put the communal lounge, the hall and the stairs on the list beside each bedroom, since everyone in the house walks across them every day. A mattress for the incoming tenant is £35.

Parking for a carpet cleaner in Haringey

Everything comes in by hand from the car: the extraction machine, hoses, a wand and the solutions. Haringey runs 43 controlled parking zones, three hourly rates and a wide spread of hours, from two hours on weekday mornings in the Highgate zone up to fourteen hours every day of the week in the Wood Green Inner Zone. Most zones cost nothing outside their hours and on bank holidays. When a visit falls inside them, the cleaner either pays by phone or parks on a visitor permit you buy, and whatever was paid is charged back at cost, capped at £40.

Landlords have a third route. The council sells tradespeople and landlords a one-day permission to park permit tied to a single street of their choice, good in resident and shared-use bays. That suits a carpet clean in an empty flat between lets, when no resident is around to buy a visitor permit. The one catch is Tottenham Hotspur Stadium: on event days the permit is not valid inside the stadium’s event zones.

Carpet cleaning in Tottenham

Tottenham’s housing takes in both Edwardian cottages and 1970s concrete. Tower Gardens, in White Hart Lane ward, was one of three pioneering pre-war cottage estates the London County Council built, put up from 1903 to 1915 in an Arts and Crafts style. For one of those houses, list the hall, the stairs and each bedroom, and count a box room as a small room at £29. Broadwater Farm in West Green ward sits at the other end of the scale: an 18 hectare council estate of concrete blocks and towers, more than 1,000 homes, next to Lordship Recreation Ground. Mention the floor number and the lift, or the lack of one, when you call.

Look at the stadium calendar before choosing a date. On a day when Tottenham Hotspur Stadium expects a crowd above 10,000, the council shuts the High Road between White Hart Lane and Bromley Road from two hours ahead of the start, other roads follow in phases, and residents holding a permit pass through checkpoints. Carpet cleaning anywhere near the ground is far easier on a day with nothing on.

Carpet cleaning in Wood Green

Wood Green has the longest parking controls in Haringey. Its Inner Zone is enforced seven days a week, 8am until 10pm; the Outer Zone covers Monday to Saturday, 8am until 6.30pm; Woodside covers the same hours on weekdays only. Daytime carpet cleaning here nearly always needs a visitor permit or a paid bay. The High Road is changing too. Haringey approved a red route on 13 October 2026 for the A105 from Turnpike Lane up to Bounds Green Road, in force at all hours, with works starting on 22 October. Stopping there is limited to signed parking and loading bays, so for a flat on that stretch the cleaner will probably unload in a side street.

Behind the High Road the houses are older. Noel Park went up between about 1881 and 1913 as cottage-style terraces for the families of skilled workers, and the conservation area around Wood Green Common and Avenue Gardens is late Victorian and Edwardian terraced streets of two and three storeys. Three storeys means two flights and two landings on the list as well as the rooms, at £41 per flight plus £9 per landing. On every stair the cleaner works the tread and the riser by hand.

Carpet cleaning in Muswell Hill

Muswell Hill went up fast. Between 1896 and 1913 its buildings and street pattern were laid out, Princes Avenue and Queens Avenue first, which is why the council’s appraisal describes the place as essentially Edwardian. Across the two wards 57.5% of households own their home, the highest share among the neighbourhoods on this page, and a carpet you own is one you may live with for many more winters. After the carpet cleaning, stain protection at £33 a room keeps a spill on the surface for long enough to blot it.

Above the shops on the Broadway parades (red brick, mostly three storeys) the flats are reached through shared doorways between the shopfronts. For one of those, the cleaner carries the machine up the shared stair, so say which floor when booking. Parking is kinder than in Wood Green. The Muswell Hill zone is controlled for two hours a day, 11am to 1pm, all week; Fortis Green has the same two hours on weekdays, and Muswell Hill West runs weekdays from 10am until 2pm. With a morning start, only the middle of the job needs a permit.

Carpet cleaning in Crouch End

Three in four Crouch End households (74.5%) live in flats, and 34.1% are in a converted or shared house, half as many again as the Haringey figure. Around the Broadway, from the 1895 Clock Tower at its northern end, the streets are mostly late 19th and early 20th century houses, inside a conservation area designated in October 1974. In a split house the top flat may start at its own door with a straight run of stairs, priced as a flight at £41; a communal stair carpet that every flat uses is priced the same way and can be booked jointly. If a ground-floor flat has bare boards and a rug or two, rug cleaning is done on the spot: £35 for a rug of 3 square metres or less, £51 for a larger one.

Parking depends on your side of the zone boundary. Zone A in Crouch End covers weekday mornings, 10am to noon, and zone B covers weekday afternoons from 2pm to 4pm, both at Haringey’s top hourly rate. Name the street when you book carpet cleaning here and the cleaner will know which two hours to cover.

Carpet cleaning in Hornsey

Hornsey is mostly flats and terraces. Purpose-built blocks account for 40.7% of the ward’s households, conversions and shared houses for 25.8% and terraced houses for 24.8%, while semis and detached homes together come to under 6%. A carpet cleaning list here might be stairs and landings in a terrace or conversion, or a sofa, an armchair and a rug in a block. An armchair is £33, and the fabric is checked before any upholstery cleaning starts, since some velvets and viscose need a different approach.

Postcodes can mislead. N8 also takes in Crouch End, Harringay, Stroud Green and other wards, so an N8 address is not always in Hornsey ward, and the parking zone is what decides when the cleaner needs a permit. Hornsey has three, all at the middle hourly rate. Hornsey North covers the whole working day on weekdays (8am until 6.30pm), Hornsey North East covers 10am until 2pm and Hornsey South just 11am until 1pm. Send the street with the full postcode and we can work out which one applies.

Carpet cleaning in Highgate

Highgate became Haringey’s first conservation area on 21 December 1967. The ward has a bigger share of detached houses than the borough (6.8% of households against 3.9%) and of converted ones (28.1% against 22.8%). A detached house can have a lounge or landing too big for the room prices, and those areas are measured and charged at £3 a square metre. A converted house can mean a long stair run up to the top flat. Leather and suede sofas are priced on a call once the cleaner knows the type; leather sofa cleaning covers aniline, semi-aniline, pigmented, suede and nubuck.

Parking here is brief. In the Highgate and Highgate Station zones the controls last just two hours, 10am to noon, Monday to Friday. Priory Gardens is the exception, controlled all day from Monday to Saturday (8am until 6.30pm). Four councils share the N6 postcode: Haringey, Camden, Islington and Barnet, and a Highgate address can fall under any of the others for permits. When you book carpet cleaning in N6, give the full postcode so the cleaner can check whose rules apply.

Carpet cleaning in Harringay

Just over half of Harringay ward’s households (50.2%) rent privately, the highest share in the borough, and 37.7% live in converted or shared houses. Every plot here had been built on by 1900, and most of the flats are conversions of that Victorian stock, including the streets west of Green Lanes that people call the Harringay Ladder for the shape they make on a map. With so many homes let, the changeover between tenants is a common moment for carpet cleaning. Whoever is moving out can fold the carpets into the move-out clean, and a landlord can have mattress cleaning done at £35 before the next person arrives. The ward stays in the selective licensing area until November 2027.

Green Lanes Zone A is controlled Monday to Saturday through the working day, 8am until 6.30pm, and its pay and display bays only take payment between 10am and 4pm. An early start therefore needs a visitor permit from the tenant, or the landlord’s permission to park permit if the flat is empty. Zone B has the same hours on weekdays.

Questions about carpet cleaning in Haringey

How do I buy a Haringey visitor permit for the carpet cleaner?

Haringey visitor permits are virtual. The resident buys them from their own account by the day or by the hour, and a household can’t have more than two day permits running together. They work in resident and shared-use bays but not in bays that are pay-by-phone only, so tell the cleaner which kind of bay is outside. If you would prefer not to buy one, the cleaner pays for parking and you are charged what it cost, up to £40.

Who books the communal stairs in a Haringey conversion?

Any one of the flats can. A shared hall, staircase and landing in a converted house are priced like any others: £22 for the hall, £41 a flight and £9 a landing. The neighbours agree a date between them, and moving bikes and post off the floor beforehand saves time on the day.

Can carpets be cleaned the day before a new tenant arrives?

Yes, and that is the safer plan. Carpets dry in a few hours if you open a window or put the radiators on, though a room with poor airflow takes longer. A clean the afternoon before a morning move-in leaves the rest of the evening for drying.
