Carpet cleaning in Ealing costs £36 a bedroom and £41 for a full staircase, with a two-seat sofa at £57; carpets and rugs are cleaned by hot water extraction where they lie.
Ealing’s housing is old. The Valuation Office counted 149,870 homes here in March 2025, and 58.3% of them were built before 1940: 28.2% before 1919 and 30.1% between the wars, the 1930s alone accounting for 22.9%. Half of all households live in flats, and about one household in eight has its flat inside a converted house, so the stair carpet outside the door is shared with the neighbours.
A house booking therefore tends to begin downstairs. The hall is £22, the flight up is £41 and the landing at the top £9, and only then do the bedrooms get counted. For a flat in a converted house, the machine comes up the common stairs by hand and our cleaner does the rooms inside your door; the shared stair carpet is a separate booking for whoever looks after the building.
Carpets in Ealing’s older houses
A 1930s house was built with a front room and a back room on the ground floor. Where the dividing wall has gone, that long room is a through lounge on our list at £61. Kept as two rooms, each is priced on its own from the room list, with the front room at £43. Tell us which you have. The cleaner lifts dining chairs, side tables and lamps out of the way and works round the sofa and sideboard in either layout.
Many of the older houses sit in Ealing’s 30 conservation areas, which the council describes as mostly 19th and early 20th century housing. They are taller houses with more stairs, more landings and rooms that may have kept one carpet for decades. If the carpet is wool or a wool mix, say so when you book: the cleaner rinses wool cooler and more gently than the nylon or polypropylene laid in many rented flats. The newest homes are the smaller share: 18.3% of the borough’s stock dates from 2000 onwards, and in a flat of that age the living room is as likely to have a rug on wood as a fitted carpet.
Carpets in rented homes across Ealing
A third of Ealing households (34.0%) rent privately, and many of those lets need a council licence. Its additional HMO scheme, running across the borough from April 2022, catches homes let to three or four sharers who are not one family. A selective scheme for lets to a single household began in April 2022 in East Acton plus the two Southall wards (Broadway and Green), and in January 2023 a second designation added twelve more old wards. Converting a family house to a small HMO has also needed planning permission, in Perivale from October 2024 and everywhere else bar Old Oak and Park Royal from November 2025.
A let changes hands more often than an owned home, so its carpets go through more changeovers. Book them alongside an end of tenancy clean and a bedroom carpet comes down to £29, the living room to £36, as the cleaner is already working there. In a furnished let, mattress cleaning costs £35 each, on the bed frame where it stands.
Carpet cleaning in Ealing Broadway
Haven Green filled up once the Great Western Railway had a station at Ealing (1838), and plenty of its yellow stock brick houses stand three storeys high over a half basement. That half-sunk room dries last after a clean, since little air passes through it, so keep the heating on there and the door wide for a few hours more than upstairs. Across the Ealing Broadway and Ealing Common wards, 66.0% of households live in flats. The Ealing Common appraisal mentions how many of the big family houses have been divided up, with bin stores in brick now standing in their front gardens, and Haven Green Court (1937 to 1938) is a four-storey mansion block. Parking rules shift street by street. Zone W next to the Broadway has just two controlled weekday hours, 9am to 10am and later 3pm to 4pm, while Central Ealing’s Zone A stays controlled until 7.30pm; Zone F at Ealing Common has an extra evening hour, 6pm to 7pm. For carpet cleaning in Zone W, a cleaner arriving after ten may need no visitor session before three, though the street signs decide.
Carpet cleaning in Acton
Of the Ealing areas here, Acton has the largest share of households in purpose-built flats, 44.7%, and Acton Gardens is one large source of them. That is the old South Acton Estate rebuilt by L&Q with Countryside: 2,098 homes finished over 2012 to 2024, a mix of homes for sale, private and social renting and shared ownership. A flat built in that period may have wood or vinyl underfoot in the living area, with carpet left to the bedrooms. In that case the job is the bedrooms plus the rug on the hard floor, £35 if it measures 3 square metres or less, £51 for anything bigger; the rug is cleaned where it lies. Just beside the estate is Mill Hill Park, a walled estate that William Willett started in 1877, with stuccoed Italianate terraces among Arts and Crafts villas, and Acton Green mixes mansion flats of about 1900 with Victorian terraces. Zone K (Acton Central) runs from 9.30am until 5.30pm on weekdays, so carpet cleaners working there will need a visitor session for the whole visit; Zone J and Zones E and SA control only two separate hours.
Carpet cleaning in Southall
Southall has the highest share of terraced houses among the Ealing areas here, 31.5% of households, and a quarter more live in semis, so a typical home has one staircase carrying the traffic of the whole family. A full flight is £41. The cleaner works down from the top, tread by tread with a hand tool, riser and nosing included. Weekend dates need a check of the parking zone. Zone L by the town centre is among the longest in Ealing: controlled 10am until 8pm from Monday to Saturday, and on Sundays from 2pm. The extended zones V and LL reach into residential side streets with Sunday control between 2pm and 6pm. A Sunday morning start is the easiest time to park for carpet cleaning in all three. Southall also has some of the borough’s heaviest landlord licensing: Southall Broadway and Southall Green have been in selective licensing from April 2022, Dormers Wells and Lady Margaret from January 2023. Many lets in UB1 and UB2 therefore need a licence from the council.
Carpet cleaning in Hanwell
The London County Council started the Cuckoo Estate in 1933 and had it finished by 1939, one of the last of its cottage estates: two-storey terraces and semis of red brick, set back round grassed corners with hooped railings. A house like that makes a short carpet list. Hall (£22), a single flight (£41), the small landing (£9), then each bedroom at £36; a box room, if there is one, goes down as a small room. Parking takes more planning than the cleaning. In Old Hanwell (Zone OH) the weekday controls come in three blocks, 8am to 10am, 1pm to 3pm and then 6pm to 8pm, so a morning carpet cleaning visit can run into the lunchtime one. Hanwell Station (H1) adds an evening hour to its morning and afternoon controls, and the town centre zone covers 9am until 6pm, Monday to Saturday. Landlords should know that the old Hobbayne ward, which takes in the Cuckoo Estate and Hanwell Village Green, falls in the second selective licensing designation. Elthorne, the old ward round the 1937 clock tower, does not.
Carpet cleaning in Greenford
Greenford has the largest share of semis of the Ealing areas here (31.2% of households), and 51.8% of households own their home. A carpet you plan to keep for many more years is worth protecting once it is clean. Stain protection costs £33 a room and lets a spilt drink sit on top of the pile long enough to blot it up, though no protector makes a carpet stain-proof. Zone Q near Greenford station, which takes in Birkbeck Avenue, Courthope Road and Downing Drive, has two controlled weekday hours only (10am to 11am, then 2pm to 3pm). A carpet cleaner who starts after 11am there needs a session only if the work is still going at two. For landlords, the three old Greenford wards (Broadway, Green and North Greenford) all joined selective licensing in January 2023, so ordinary lets across much of Greenford need a licence.
Carpet cleaning in Northolt
Western Avenue, the A40, divides Northolt’s homes in two. On the north side most houses are privately owned and went up in the 1920s and 1930s, so the carpet list there runs to a staircase and a landing as well as bedrooms. On the south side, by Kensington Road and Ruislip Road, the stock is mostly social housing of the 1960s and 1970s, and the Racecourse Estate rose from 1951 to 1955 on the old pony-racing track. In a block, the carpet cleaner brings every machine and hose up by hand or in the lift, so tell us your floor and whether the lift works. In a flat the sofa often takes as much wear as the carpet: sofa cleaning costs £57 for a two-seater and £33 per armchair. Zone QQ is unusual, controlled from 9am to 9pm every day of the week while covering just a few streets, Goodwood Drive, Sussex Crescent and Brighton Drive among them. Both Northolt wards, Mandeville and West End, sit inside the second selective licensing designation.
Carpet cleaning in West Ealing
St Stephen’s conservation area is built round The Avenue and North Avenue. Its Edwardian houses went up a few at a time, with turrets, oriel windows, timber porches and iron balconies, around the listed former St Stephen’s Church that became flats in the 1980s. A church conversion can leave rooms of odd shapes, and where a floor is open-plan or very large the cleaner measures it and charges by area at £3 a square metre. If the bay or oriel windows have long curtains, curtain cleaning in the home is £42 a pair. Converted houses count for more here than across Ealing as a whole: in Walpole and Pitshanger wards 15.2% of households live in houses split into flats or shared, where the borough figure is 12.7%. Check the zone before booking carpet cleaning, since West Ealing’s four zones cut up the weekday in different ways. Zone H is controlled from 9.30am right through to 5.30pm; HH, the town centre zone (WE) and JJ in Ealing Dean each control a morning hour and an afternoon hour, at slightly different times.
Questions about carpet cleaning in Ealing
Does the carpet cleaner need a visitor parking session in Ealing?
Only when the visit falls inside your zone’s controlled hours, and Ealing’s 63 controlled parking zones keep very different hours. A resident pays for visitor parking through PayByPhone, by the hour or as a whole day, and the session covers permit-holder bays as long as the vehicle is under 3 metres tall and 1.83 metres across. Tell us your zone when you book. Any parking the cleaner pays for is added at cost, up to £40.
Where does an old carpet or mattress go in Ealing?
To the Greenford Road site (UB6 9AP), Ealing’s reuse and recycling centre, by booked visit. It accepts sorted carpet and underlay from residents at no charge if you bring ID. Mattresses are free up to two in any 12 months and charged one by one after that. The site does not open to the public on Wednesday or Thursday. If the carpet is staying, a clean is £36 a bedroom or £43 a living room.
Is a knocked-through 1930s lounge priced as one room?
Yes. In an Ealing semi or terrace whose front and back reception rooms are now one, the whole floor is a through lounge at £61. If the two rooms are still separate, each is priced on its own, and an open-plan floor much larger than a through lounge goes by the square metre at £3.
How long will a carpet in an Ealing basement flat take to dry?
A few hours as a rule, but longer than a room upstairs. Basement and half-basement rooms in Ealing’s Victorian houses get little moving air, so run the heating, open a window if there is one and leave internal doors open. Keep furniture standing on the foil squares the cleaner leaves under the legs until the pile no longer feels damp.
